Last year was my first year as the co-chair for BikeAlameda's Bike to Work Day (BTWD) activities. I decided then that I wanted to show residents that shopping, cycling to a happy hour or a movie was possible and enjoyable. This year is no different, except we have added two fun tours to last year's schedule.

Please join us for the following returning events: On Saturday, May 7, get a free bike safety check by an Alameda Bicycle mechanic at Towne Centre. On BTWD, pick up a bag of goodies at an Energizer Station; enjoy half price small plates, drink specials, and real wood fired pizza at Barceluna. On Sunday, May 15, take in a matinee complete with popcorn and a soda at a great discount at the Alameda Theater. Save 10 percent on all your purchases at the Alameda Natural Grocery during Bike to the Market Day Saturday, May 21. Oh, did I mention you can ride the Blue & Gold and Harbor Bay ferries for free all day on BTWD as long as you bring your bike?

BikeAlameda has been working on behalf of cyclists for more than 10 years. The next time you ride along one of Alameda's great tree-lined streets in a marked bike lane or lock your bike to a real bike rack, think about BikeAlameda and its efforts in promoting a bicycle friendly city.
