Last Thursday, the Alameda Fire Department (AFD) celebrated the promotions of Captain Bret Coggiola and apparatus operator Steve Menger, and the academy graduation of firefighters Alex Barbour, Ronnie Duong and William Lee.

International styles of dance, drumming, singing, poetry, art and food came together in a spirited celebration of unity in diversity at the Alameda Community Learning Center's (ACLC) annual multicultural night.

The Frank Bette Center for the Arts, 1601 Paru St., presents the sixth annual Alameda on Camera, a photo documentary with 48 different perspectives of the Island City. Photographers snapped pictures of places you may recognize and of places you may not recognize that have been in plain view.
