Community Needs Your Help with Blood Drive The Red Cross, in conjunction with Alameda Hospital, will be holding a community blood drive on Friday, Dec. 23, at Alameda Hospital located at 2070 Clinton Ave. Alameda Hospital Director of Community Relations Louise Nakada said this is an important time of year for donated blood. "The need for donated blood is greater during the holidays," she said. "It helps the hospitals out a lot." This is a Red Cross blood drive, but will use Alameda Hospital's facilities. The donated blood will be given to hospitals throughout the area — along with Alameda Hospital — but Nakada says the hospital is glad to help the Red Cross with its drive. "We definitely get a sense of pride to help out the Red Cross," said Nakada. "Whatever we can do to help is great." Nakada went on to say the Red Cross's goal is to have between 40 and 45 people show up for the drive. The drive starts at 12:30 p.m. and will conclude at 5:30 p.m. The Red Cross asks that donors schedule an appointment before they donate at the drive. For more information or to schedule an appointment, visit the Red Cross website: redcrossblood. org or call 814-4362. Get Blood Pressure Checked Alameda Hospital will also be conducting blood pressure screening tomorrow on the first floor in the women's health center. The free screening will take place from 10 a.m. to noon. A health-care professional will also be giving important health and wellness information to those who show up. For more information, call Alameda Hospital at 814-4362. |
