Free Admission to Hornet

In recognition of their service to our country, military veterans wearing their unit jackets, hats or showing proper identification at the ticket desk will receive complimentary admission to the USS Hornet Museum from Nov. 10 to 16.

American veterans will be honored during a public ceremony on the historic aircraft carrier on Veteran's Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11, beginning at 1 p.m. The Hornet is located at the former Naval Air Station, 707 W. Hornet Ave., Pier 3.

The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Regular admission prices are $6 to $14 and there is ample free parking. For more information, call 521-8448, Ext. 282 or go

Veterans' Day Parade in Hayward

The Alameda County Veterans Affairs Commission is sponsoring this year's Veterans Day parade in Hayward, Tuesday, Nov. 11. There will be a pre-parade dinner at the Hayward Veterans Memorial Hall Monday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. On Nov. 11, a flag-raising ceremony takes place at 8 a.m. at Hayward City Hall. The parade begins at 11 a.m. and includes elected officials, Gold Star mothers and fathers, National Guard units, veterans' organizations, marching bands, antique cars, JROTC and color guards.

Veterans Meetings Scheduled

A number of meetings for veterans are slated for the next week. Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 9919, will meet Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. On Nov. 12 at noon, the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 8, meets. Later that day, American Legion Post 647 will meet at 7 p.m. All of the above meetings will take place at the Veterans Memorial Building, 2203 Central Ave.

Veteran Visual, Video, Performance Artists Exhibit

Celebrate the opening of Veterans' Voices, an exhibition of painting, sculpture, video and performance by Bay Area veterans. The art exhibition opens Friday, Nov. 7, with a party from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is free to the public. Subhuman Returns to Rhythmix

On Veterans' Day, Nov. 11, the performance of Subhuman: True Tales from Beneath the Sea takes place at 8 p.m. Ed Holmes tells true tales of his days as a mechanic aboard a diesel submarine in the Pacific Ocean. Meet the Author

Dinner-Dance Set

The Alameda Elks Lodge has scheduled a Veterans Day Holiday Dinner-Dance for Nov. 15, at 6 p.m., featuring the music of The Therapy Band. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Military Package program. This event is open to Elks Lodge members and their guests. Tickets are $20; additional donations are welcome.
