Alameda schools and youth organizations were the primary beneficiaries of $25,000 in community service grants awarded by the Rotary of Alameda at a recent lunch meeting. Alameda schools and youth organizations were the primary beneficiaries of $25,000 in community service grants awarded by the Rotary of Alameda at a recent lunch meeting. The club provided grants to the following organizations: Alameda Boys and Girls Club, Alameda Community Learning Center, Alameda Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Alameda Family Services, Alameda Head Start, Alameda Food Bank, Alameda High School student newspaper, Alameda Homeless Network, Alameda Meals on Wheels, Alameda Science and Technology Institute, Alternatives in Action, American Red Cross Alameda Service Center, Cal-SAFE Program, Chipman Cougar Cadet Corps, Chipman Middle School Music Department, Encinal High School student newspaper, Island High School Close Up program, Lincoln Middle School, YMCA Coast Guard Child Care Program and the YMCA Haight Y-Kids. Over the past 10 years, the group has contributed $155,000 in community grants in an effort to meet the needs of Alameda causes. During the same time period $159,000 in scholarships have been awarded to local Alameda students to ensure their ability to continue on to colleges of their choice.
