At 6:14 p.m. AFD firefighters from Fire Station #4 responded to the report of a residential fire on Britt Court. Crewmembers arrived on scene at 6:17 p.m. to learn that the fire was contained to a clothes dryer. They put out the fire and cleared the call at 6:29 p.m. Monday, July 6 Dryer fire At 6:14 p.m. AFD firefighters from Fire Station #4 responded to the report of a residential fire on Britt Court. Crewmembers arrived on scene at 6:17 p.m. to learn that the fire was contained to a clothes dryer. They put out the fire and cleared the call at 6:29 p.m. Cooking fire Twenty-one firefighters were dispatched to investigate the report of flames shooting from a stove at an apartment complex in the 1700 block of Lincoln Avenue, which is closest to Fire Station No. 3. When crewmembers arrived at 8:11 p.m. they found that a cooking fire that had been confined to the stove and had gone out. They cleared the call at 8:22 p.m. False call AFD firefighters responded to a false alarm at 12:36 p.m. in the 2400 block of Central Avenue. In their roles as paramedics, AFD firefighters responded to 18 calls for service on Monday, July 6. Tuesday, July 7 Hot dogs are ready At 4:51 p.m. AFD firefighters from Fire Station #2 were dispatched to investigate the report of a smoke alarm sounding at an apartment complex in the 400 block of Buena Vista Avenue. When crewmembers arrived they learned that smoke from a barbecue had set off the alarm. They cleared the call at 5:06 p.m. In their roles as paramedics, AFD firefighters responded to 12 calls for service on Tuesday, July 7. Wednesday, July 8 Smoking ashtray AFD firefighters from Fire Station #4 were dispatched to investigate the report of an outside ashtray that was smoking at a business office in the 1400 block of Harbor Bay Parkway. Crewmembers arrived at 8:14 a.m., but found nothing. They cleared the call at 8:21 a.m. Gas leak investigation At 2:48 p.m. an AFD crew from Fire Station #3 was dispatched to investigate the odor of natural gas at an apartment complex in the 1600 block of Central Avenue. When crewmembers arrived, they contacted PG&E and cleared the scene at 3:22 p.m. House fire At 06:13 a.m. 23 firefighters responded to the report of a residential fire in the 2100 block of San Antonio Avenue. When crewmembers arrived they saw smoke coming from an attic dormer and learned that the homeowner had attempted to put out a fire with buckets of water. Firefighters cut though the peak of the roof to ventilate the fire, located the fire and extinguished it. They thoroughly searched for any hot spots. AFD called for mutual aid from OFD to cover Alameda's fire stations until AFD firefighters cleared the scene at 8:24 a.m. False alarm AFD firefighters responded to a false alarm at 2:04 p.m. in the 500 block of Buena Vista Avenue In their roles as paramedics, AFD firefighters responded to 17 calls for service on Wednesday, July 8. Thursday, July 9 Dumpster blaze At 8:20 a.m. an AFD crew from Fire Station #2 was dispatched to investigate the report of a Dumpster on fire at the intersection of Webster Street and Atlantic Avenue. When crewmembers arrived they found a fire in the Dumpster and extinguished it without damaging the Dumpster. They cleared the call at 8:36 a.m. False call An AFD crew responded to a false alarm at 7:18 a.m. in the 1400 block of San Antonio Avenue In their roles as paramedics, AFD firefighters responded to 11 calls for service on Thursday, July 2 Friday, July 10 Steamy situation At 1:36 a.m., an AFD crew from Fire Station #2 was dispatched to investigate the presence of smoke in the 300 block of Tideway Drive. Crewmembers arrived and determined that steam, and not smoke, was the source of the concern. The cleared the call at 1:45 a.m. Burning rubber An AFD crew responded to the report of the odor of burning rubber at an apartment complex in the 2200 block of Buena Vista Avenue. By the time crewmembers arrived at 8:42 a.m. the odor has dissipated. They advised the residents to call AFD if the odor returned and cleared the call at 8:53 a.m. Leaking hydrant An AFD crew from Fire Station #1 was dispatched to investigate the report of a hydrant leak at the intersection of Lincoln and Versailles avenues. When they arrived at 8:15 p.m. they confirmed the leak, advised EBMUD and cleared the call at 8:16 p.m. False calls AFD crews responded to two false alarms: the first at 8:19 a.m. at Washington School and the second at 5:52 p.m. in the 1300 block of Hansen Avenue. The Washington School alarm had been maliciously set. In their roles as paramedics, AFD firefighters responded to eight calls for service on Friday, July 10. Saturday, July 11 All-purpose kitty litter At 9:18 a.m. and AFD crew from Fire Station #1 responded to the report of a fuel spill at the intersection of Broadway and Blanding Avenue. When they arrived, they discovered diesel fuel on the roadway. Crewmembers used two bags of kitty litter to absorb the spill. They took the used litter to the city's corporate yard for disposal and cleared the call at 9:41 a.m. In their roles as paramedics, AFD firefighters responded to 12 calls for service on Saturday, July 11. Sunday, July 12 Dumpster blaze #2 At 4:42 a.m. an AFD crew from Fire Station #2 responded to the report of a Dumpster on fire at Woodstock Elementary School. Crewmembers arrived, extinguished the fire and cleared the call at 5:15 a.m. All wet Six firefighters from Fire Station #2 were dispatched to investigate the report of a fire-sprinkler activation at the Lucky store in the 800 block of Marina Village Parkway. When crewmembers arrived at 9:23 a.m., 43 seconds after dispatch, they learned there was no emergency. They silenced the alarm and turned off the power. Crewmembers helped remove water and plugged the broken sprinkler head. They advised the store's manager to contact a certified sprinkler repair service and cleared the call at 10:08 a.m. Hot dogs are ready #2 At 7:07 p.m. an AFD crew from Fire Station #3 responded to the report of smoke coming from an apartment complex in the 900 block of Shorepoint Court. They canceled the call at 7:22 p.m. after they learned that a family was barbecuing on a balcony.
