Effective Tuesday, Nov. 9 criminal cases heard at the George E. McDonald Hall of Justice in Alameda will be heard at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse, 661 Washington St. in Oakland. Criminal Court Moves to Oakland Sun Staff Reports Effective Tuesday, Nov. 9 criminal cases heard at the George E. McDonald Hall of Justice in Alameda will be heard at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse, 661 Washington St. in Oakland. Currently Alameda's George E. McDonald Hall of Justice handles all misdemeanors and felonies that have occurred in the city of Alameda, and the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse is assigned misdemeanors that have occurred in the cities of Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland and Piedmont. In addition the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse also hears felony cases throughout the county concerning welfare fraud and some health and safety code violations. The county's cost-cutting measure will backfire on Alameda and cost the city more money. The Alameda Police Department will have to transport people who have been arrested in Alameda from the Alameda jail to the Wiley M. Manuel Courthouse each weekday morning. Missing Man Safely at Home Sun Staff Reports The Alameda Police Department announced that Dante Marshall, who his family reported missing, has been found in good health at a Salvation Army in Modesto. Marshall failed to return home on Sept. 27 after visiting a flea market at Laney College. The family was concerned because Marshall has to take daily medication, but had none with him. Marshall, who is developmentally handicapped, has gone missing in the past, turning up safely in places like Petaluma, Cloverdale, Dublin and Reno, Nev. ALERT! No Door-to-Door Subscriptions It has come to the attention of the Alameda Sun that people are going door-to-door soliciting subscriptions to our newspaper. The salespeople claim to be from Kennedy High School. The Sun does not sell subscriptions door-to-door with any organization. |
