On Saturday, March 27, Girls Inc. of the Island City will honor women and teens from the Bay Area at its 11th Annual Women Who Dare Awards event.

The organization will recognize the women and teens for working and pursuing the study of the "STEM" subjects: science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

They will honor those who have contributed to savings in energy and natural resources; created incremental and emergent changes in thought, products, process or organizations; and impacted a national or global circle of influences by mentoring women or girls, or creating a service or product for women or girls.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Scott's Seafood Restaurant at Jack London Square in Oakland.
