On Saturday Aug. 6, as part of a series of free summer concerts at South Shore Center, a sizeable crowd was treated to a sensational show by Papa's Garage, one of the Bay Area's hottest blues bands. Touching on a range of musical genres, including blues, funk, R&B and rock, Papa's Garage delivered first-rate versions of everything from Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" to Fenton Robinson's "Somebody Loan Me A Dime." From the Motown funk standard, "Road Runner" by Junior Walker & the All Stars to "Red House," Jimi Hendrix's blues tour de force, gems from the Rolling Stones, Robert Cray, and Sly and the Family Stone had little kids and seniors alike dancing joyously in front of the stage through two sets of electrifying numbers, featuring the powerful vocals of Paul Dunn, the scintillating guitar work of Evan Goldstein, Jeff Lyons on bass and Paul Obiy on drums. The band wrapped it up with a classic blues song, B.B. King's "Downhearted," leaving a happy crowd hungry for more. |
