Trio Garufa will perform at Rhythmix Cultural Works at 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26 (come at 8 p.m. for dance lessons). The trio — Argentian Guillermo Garcia on guitar, Swiss Adrian Jost on bandoneon, and Californian Sascha Jacobsen on string bass — will play music from Argentina and Uruguay. Singer María Volonté and the group Urubanda will also perform. Trio Garufa is considered one of the most versatile contemporary interpreters of Argentine Tango, mixing a deep respect for tango's Golden Era with the innovation of the modern Nuevo Tango movement. Volonte is an Argentine singer, guitarist and composer who has been celebrated for the intense passion and beauty of her songs, as well as for her charisma and sensuality on stage. Uruguayan percussionists Edgardo Cambon and Walter Gonzalez founded Urubanda. The band plays rare and very danceable Uruguayan rhythms. Event tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Drinks and concessions will be available. Rhythmix Cultural Works is located at 2513 Blanding Ave. To learn more about the event, go to www. rhythmix.org. |
