For the next two weekends, local residents can enjoy comedic acts at nearby venues. Comedy Night with Johnny Steele One of the Bay Area's bestknown personalities, Johnny Steele will perform his Standup Comedy Variety Friday, Sept. 9 from 8 to 10 p.m. as part of Rhythmix Cultural Works' monthly comedy night held each second Friday. This 90-minute spectacle of hilarious topical stand up comedy features skits, quizzes and other surprises. Johnny Steele is a former host of several radio and TV shows including The Live 105 Morning Show, The Show on KRON 4/Bay TV, and The War On Error Radio Hour on Green 960. He's also a past winner of the San Francisco International Comedy Competition and has headlined across the U.S., Canada, and Europe. The Rhythmix Comedy Night series features a rotating cast of performers. These shows coincide with Second Friday Art Receptions at the K Gallery, Bridgehead Studio and other art galleries in the area. The event costs $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Comedy at Elks Lodge The Alameda Elks Lodge, 2255 Santa Clara Ave., and its Hard Rack Café 2011 Charity Music Series will present "The Comedy Machine" featuring comedians Andy Kerr, Reggie Steel, and newcomer Brendan Lynch on Friday, Sept. 16. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.; show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the lodge office. The Comedy Machine will be appearing in the newly remodeled Rathskeller, the Elks Lodge basement. The Hard Rack Café 2011 Charity Music Series raises money to fund the Elks Lodge college scholarship program, youth sports activities, scouting and veterans programs, as well as other community outreach programs. |
