Rick Murray and Dennis Evanosky Monday, June 25 At 12:24 a.m., firefighters from Fire Station No. 1 investigated the report of material smoking on the soccer field at Lincoln Park. Crewmembers investigated and found a small pile of burned trash on the lawn. • In their role as paramedics, Alameda firefighters responded to eight calls for emergency medical services on Monday, June 25. Tuesday, June 26 At 8:51 a.m., firefighters from Fire Station No. 2 investigated the report of the smell of natural gas at the intersection of Webster Street and Buena Vista Avenue. When crewmembers arrived on scene they were unable to detect any odor of natural gas. At 8:42 p.m., firefighters from Fire Station No. 2 responded to the report of a person trapped inside an elevator on the 500 block of Buena Vista Avenue. Crewmembers arrived to find that the trapped individual had escaped the elevator uninjured. They placed the elevator out of service pending repairs. • In their role as paramedics, Alameda firefighters responded to 13 calls for emergency medical services on Tuesday, June 26. Wednesday, June 27 At 11:19 a.m., firefighters from Fire Station No. 3 responded to the report of a ruptured natural gas line at the intersection of Washington and High streets. Firefighters arrived, and met with construction workers who explained that they had accidently struck an underground gas line. Firefighters called Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) to the scene, secured the area and turned the scene over to the PG&E crewmembers when they arrived. • In their role as paramedics, Alameda firefighters responded to 10 calls for emergency medical services on Wednesday, June 27. Thursday, June 28 Alameda firefighters responded to two false alarms on Thursday, June 28: the first at 12:35 p.m. on the 1200 block of South Loop Road and the second at 5:43 p.m. on the 500 block of Wind River Way. • In their role as paramedics, Alameda firefighters responded to 15 calls for emergency medical services on Thursday, June 28. Friday, June 29 At 5:01 a.m., firefighters from Fire Station No. 2 responded to the report of something burning at an apartment complex on the 1000 block of Shore Line Drive. Crewmembers arrived on scene, but were unable to detect any unusual burning odors. They advised the reporting party to call back if the odor returned. At 4:11 p.m., firefighters from Fire Station No. 4 responded to the intersection of Magnolia Drive and Melrose Avenue to investigate the report of smoke in the neighborhood. Crewmembers arrived, but were unable locate any smoke. • In their role as paramedics, Alameda firefighters responded to 14 calls for emergency medical services on Friday, June 29. Saturday, June 30 At 6:25 p.m., firefighters from Fire Station No. 2 responded to the report of smoke coming from a window at a home on the 100 block of Maple Way. When firefighters arrived, they determined the smoke was coming from a kitchen window. Someone was cooking dinner. At 7:07 p.m., firefighters from Fire Station No. 4 responded to the report of excessive water coming from the garage of a home on the 3500 block of Oleander Avenue. Firefighters arrived and met with the homeowner who explained he was repairing his irrigation system. • In their role as paramedics, Alameda firefighters responded to 18 calls for emergency medical services on Saturday, June 30. Sunday, July 1 At 12:52 a.m., firefighters from Fire Station No. 1 responded to the report of an alarm sounding at a commercial building on the 1400 block of Oak Street. When crewmembers arrived they could hear the alarm. They discovered that someone had maliciously pulled the manual alarm on the second floor. There was no emergency. Firefighters reset the alarm and cleared the call. At 11:13 a.m., firefighters from Fire Station No. 2 responded to a false alarm at an apartment complex on thee 400 block of Buena Vista Avenue. They determined that juveniles had possibly maliciously set the alarm. At 1:30 p.m., firefighters from Fire Station No. 3 responded to the report of an alarm sounding at a home on the 2000 block of Santa Clara Avenue. When they arrived, firefighters determents that there was no emergency; a smoke alarm had malfunctioned. At 8:25 p.m., firefighters from Fire Station No. 2 responded to the report of an alarm sounding at an apartment complex on the 500 block of Buena Vista Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they could hear the alarm sounding. They walked the property and determined that excessive smoke from cooking had set off the alarm. There was no emergency. At 9 p.m., firefighters from Fire Station No. 1 responded to the report of smoke in the neighborhood around the 1300 block of Broadway. When they arrived on scene, firefighters noticed the smell of smoke. They located its source in a backyard where wood was burning in a controlled fire pit. They advised the homeowner of the city's no-burning ordinance and he put out the small fire. • In their role as paramedics, Alameda firefighters responded to 17 calls for emergency medical services on Sunday, July 1. |
