Alameda Firefighters help a veteran aboard a boat during last Saturday’s wheelchair regatta at the Encinal Yacht Club.
The Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association (PICYA) hosted the 16th Annual Margot Brown Wheelchair Regatta last Saturday at the Encinal Yacht Club. The event included some 32 yachts and provided more than 350 veterans confined to wheelchairs an opportunity to experience a cruise on the Oakland Estuary and on San Francisco Bay along San Francisco's waterfront.
When they returned from their cruise, guests were treated to a picnic lunch and entertainment. Skippers and owners donated their time and boats.
Volunteers ashore assisted in welcoming and boarding the guests, as well as in preparing and serving lunch and providing entertainment.
