Rosa Gilmore of Chestnut Street — resident of Alameda and active member of St. Joseph's parish since 1967. Born Jan. 10, 1919 in Rovira, Colombia. Passed away peacefully on Jan. 29, 2012 in Sacramento.

Loving wife of the late Frank I. Gilmore and proud mother of Cecilia Gyory of Vancouver, Michael Gilmore and Clare Gilmore of Alameda, and Catherine Gilmore Zarate of Sacramento. Also survived by beloved grandchildren Justin, Kristina, Kenneth, Heather, Tulanio, Tono, and Andrew, and great-grandchildren Erin, Ethan, Cecilia, John, J'sai, and Jasper.

Rosa was a devoted registered nurse for more than 20 years. She enjoyed a number of creative hobbies throughout her life such as sewing, crocheting, crafts and gardening. Among numerous volunteer and philanthropic activities, Rosa most enjoyed being a nurse volunteer for the local chapter of the American Red Cross providing flu shots and vaccinations to underserved members of the community. She also took many emergency preparedness training classes and was always ready to serve those in need. Services to be held at St. Joseph's Basilica in Alameda on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 1 p.m. Gathering of family and friends will take place at 1625 Dayton Ave. immediately following the service. Burial will be in the National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif. alongside late husband, Frank, an Army veteran of World War II.
