The Alameda County Fair Association has selected five new members to the fair’s board of directors. New members include Alamedans Dawna Dowdell and Don Sherratt. This marks the first time in the board’s 100-year history that two Alameda residents will serve on the board at the same time. Dowdell works at the Bank of Alameda as a personal banking officer. She is actively involved in community organizations that include Kiwanis and Meals on Wheels. She also does volunteer work with the Alameda Police Department. Sherratt has more than 40 years experience in education. He retired from the Alameda Unified School District in 2001, where he worked as chief of personnel. Director A.J. “Lil” Arnerich will step down in July after serving 12 years on the board. He can boast of one of the best attendance records on the books, having attended 92 percent of the board’s monthly and special meetings. |
