Fruitvale Bridge retrofit underway
Alameda County's Public Works Agency has begun seismically retrofitting the Fruitvale Bridge. The first phase will continue between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. though tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 24. During this time, the agency will raise and lower the bridge intermittently. The agency says that there will be no more than three raisings each day. Both the High Street and Park Street bridges will remain open.
Fernside traffic meeting
The Public Works Department will hold a meeting to discuss and elicit feedback on a proposal to construct raised medians and curb extensions at the intersection of Gibbons, Northwood and Southwood drives. If approved, the design would also include an all-way stop at the intersection.
A preliminary design is available at www.cityofalamedaca.gov/City-Hall/Traffic-and-Transportation.
Walnut lagoon wall meeting
The city will hold an informational community meeting to discuss the proposed replacement of the lagoon wall at the end of Walnut Street. The projects include: installing a sheet pile wall to stabilize the land-side during construction and to allow the existing wall to be demolished; pouring concrete piers outboard from the sheet pile wall; and constructing the concrete wall.
Construction is scheduled to begin mid-June and should be completed by the end of August. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 29, in the city council chambers at city hall, 2263 Santa Clara Ave. Those unable to attend the meeting may submit written comments to Laurie Kozisek, City Hall West, 950 W. Mall Square, Room 110 Alameda, CA 94501.
