Women's Golf Club Posts Results

After completing two prominent events — President's Cup final round and the monthly Charm event — the two previous Thursdays, the Alameda Women's Golf Club held a net tournament play event last Thursday, July 12, on the Earl Fry Course.

LeAnn Curran won the event, shooting a net 64 from the fourth flight — golfers with a handicap of 33 to 40. Barbara Mickle came in second place, just two strokes behind Curran with a net 66 in the second flight — handicap of 20 to 26. Donna Cooper finished in third place with a net 67 from the fourth flight.

Cheryl Saxton held top honors in the first flight — handicap of nine to 19 — with a net 68 powered by an eagle on the 14th hole. Peggy Miller shot a net 69 and Jenny Bae shot a net 71 for second and third place, respectively, in the first flight.

Behind Mickle in the second flight, Bobbie Hoepner shot a net 69 for second place in the second flight. Barbara Wood was three strokes behind Hoepner with a net 72 for third place. Siv Richards came in first place in the third flight — handicap of 27 to 32 — with a net 70. She just beat out Bonnie Kim who had a net 71. Chun Kim and Susan Logan tied for third with a net 74. Finally, Betsy Gammell finished behind Curran and Cooper in the fourth flight with a net 70 for third place.

Saxton shot the low gross of the day with a gross 79.

Curran was not only victorious in tournament play, she also won the closest-to-the-hole competition on the seventh hole by placing her ball 3'4" away from the pin. Bae and Stephanie Bellato both won the competition on the fourth hole by making birdies.

Thirty-six golfers participated in the tournament.
