AHS, EHS Enjoy Sports Successes

Alameda's student athletes have had a very successful fall season, with some individuals and teams still competing in post season playoffs.

Alameda High School

■ Both the men and women's cross country teams won the Alameda Contra Costa County Athletic League (ACCAL) championship and are participating in the North Coast Section (NCS) playoffs.

■ The men's water polo team won the ACCAL championship.

■ The women's water polo team placed second in the ACCAL.

■ The women's tennis team won the ACCAL championship.

■ The women's volleyball team placed second in the ACCAL and all the above-mentioned teams are participating in the NCS playoffs.

■ The women's volleyball, cross-country, water polo, golf and tennis teams are each in the running for an NCS scholastic award.

■ The women's golf team won the ACCAL championship, placed third in the NCS playoffs and qualified for NorCal playoffs. Alameda High's Carly Childs won the Northern California individual title. Childs had three birdies on her first nine holes and saved par on the 18th hole to finish at 1-over-par 71, one stroke ahead of four other golfers. Childs also won the North Coast Section championship; she is the second Alameda golfer to win the Northern California title in the past four years. Grace Na won the title in 2009.

Encinal High School

■ The men's water polo team made it to the NCS playoffs, but lost in the first round to Campolindo. Coach Kyle Baldi was voted Coach of the Year.

■ The women's water polo team made it to the NCS playoffs, but lost in the first round to Terra Linda. Coach Lani Molina was voted Coach of the Year.

■ The men and women's cross-country teams competed in the NCS championships.

■ The men's football team won the Bay Shore Athletic League (BSAL) champions and advanced to the NCS playoffs.
