High School Winter Sports Preview

The end of the fall sports schedule means the winter sports schedule for St. Joseph Notre Dame, Alameda and Encinal high schools is just getting under way.

Basketball

Alameda High's men's and women's teams played their annual alumni games last week with the men's team losing 66-64 and women's team winning 65-56.

The men's team officially began its season yesterday against Rancho Cotati. The women's team will play in the Sonora Tournament today.

St. Joseph's men's team will start its campaign to repeat as CIF Division 5 Champions in its season opener against Urban High of San Francisco this Saturday.

The women's team began its season with a 64-22 blowout win over Chinese Christian School of San Leandro. They faced McClymonds High of Oakland in its second game Tuesday.

The Encinal Jets' men's team will play Ygnacio Valley of Concord on Dec. 6 in its opener.

The women's team opened up against Arroyo High of San Lorenzo yesterday.

Soccer

The Alameda men's team beat Mt. Eden High in the opener 5-1 and will take on Foothill High on Dec. 17 in its next game.

The women's team battled Antioch High to a 3-3 tie in the season opener and faced Ygnacio Valley on Tuesday.

The St. Joseph men's soccer team kicked off its season against Berean Christian of Walnut Creek on Wednesday, while the women's team played Berean Christian in their opener on Monday.

The Encinal men's team faces El Cerrito High today, while the women's team played Ygnacio Valley in their opener on Monday.
