SJND, Alameda, Encinal hit the courts Recently high school winter sports teams began their seasons. These results are from games that took place Nov. 29 through Dec. 5. St. Joseph Notre Dame The St. Joseph Notre Dame boys' basketball team won its season opener 74-24 against Urban of San Francisco last Saturday. The team took on Ripon High on Tuesday and will play in the Island Classic Friday and Saturday on their home court. The girls' basketball team suffered a tough 55-50 defeat to McClymonds of Oakland on Nov. 29, but the team rebounded with a 69-45 win over Convent of Sacred Heart of San Francisco last Saturday. The team faced Athenian of Danville on Wednesday and will take on Head Royce of Oakland on Saturday. Alameda High The Alameda boys' basketball team took care of Rancho Cotate of Rohnert Park on Nov. 30, 58-46 and beat Arroyo of San Lorenzo 49-42 last Saturday at the College of Alameda. The team faced Clayton Valley of Concord on Tuesday and will take part in the Island Classic at SJND. The Lady Hornets took part in the Sonora Tournament over the weekend. Alameda lost 51- 40 to Bear River of Grass Valley last Thursday, came up short 40- 31 against Argonaut of Jackson last Friday, but were able to pull out a decisive 69-37 victory over Johansen of Modesto last Saturday. The team beat Mt. Diablo of Concord on Monday, 61- 25. They play against Washington of Fremont today in the Lady Hornet Classic. Encinal High The Encinal boys' basketball team defeated Kennedy of Fremont 70-23 on Nov. 30. Encinal took on Ygnacio Valley on Tuesday and will battle El Cerrito in El Cerrito tomorrow. Last week the Lady Jets were 1-1 in the Irvington Tournament with a 63-21 victory over San Lorenzo last Thursday and a tough 54-52 loss to Washington last Saturday. They will meet Skyline of Oakland today. |
