Women's Golf Club tees off for 2012 Pam Curtis and Ruby Soo were Alameda Women's Golf Club's January "Charm Day" winners, with a low net score of 63. Curtis and Soo played with 32 sister golfers on the first "Charm Day" event of 2012. Early on, it seemed Mother Nature wouldn't allow the golfers to fully enjoy the event, but as the day went on, the weather turned to perfect golf conditions as the temperature warmed up and the sun shone brightly. Among first-flight golfers — those with handicaps between 10 and 21 — Peggy Miller came in first place with a net 70. Nora Solmoro was close behind with a net 71. Maggie Clendenin and Cheryl Saxton tied for third place with a net 72. In the second-flight group — golfers with handicaps between 22 to 27 — Jenny Hong and Kay Park tied for first place with a net 71. Coming in just two strokes behind were Louise Eilhardt and Sherry Westernoff, each with a net 73. Soo won the third-flight group — those golfers with handicaps between 28 to 33 — with her 63. Closest behind her was Bobbie Hoepner and Irene Park, each with a net 70. Curtis earned first place in the fourth-flight group — golfers with handicaps between 34 and 40 — with a 63. Betsy Gammell earned second place with a net 74 and Bev Blatt and Denise Lynch tied for third, each with a net 75. Peggy Miller won the closet-tothe- hole competition on the seventh hold, placing 11'8" from the pin. Kathy Reynolds won the closet to the hole competition on the 16th hole; her ball stopped just 9" from the pin. Cheryl Saxton shot the low gross score of the day with an 83. Jenny Bae, Norma Marchesin and Kay Park were the low putt winners with just 29 putts. |
