Having taken notice of what their junior swimmers accomplished in Morgan Hill a week before at the Winter Junior Olympics, the Alameda Islander Aquatic's senior swimmers decided to put on a show of their own on Dec. 8 and 9 in Pleasant Hill at the Short Course Senior Championship.

The Encinal Jets' men's basketball team won its duel against Island city rival Alameda 63-60 in overtime last Friday, Jan. 4, at the Nail House. Encinal took the early edge in the game with an 18-0 run that started with a three-pointer from guard Jordan Santa Maria.

Alameda Babe Ruth player evaluations for the 2013 season for players ages 13 to 15 will be held at Upper Washington Park, 740 Central Ave., on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 5 and 6 and again on Saturday, Jan. 12.

Mens Basketball After a 0-3 start to the season the Alameda Hornets' men's basketball team has reeled off four victories in a row, including three wins to earn the Brett Callan Memorial Tournament trophy.

From Nov. 30 through Dec. 2, two storms swept through the Morgan Hill area. Mother Nature created the first with wind, pouring rain and lightning. Not to be outdone by Mother Nature, the Alameda Islanders Aquatics came storming into the Morgan Hill Aquatic Center for the Winter Junior Olympics and put on a spectacular show of their own.
