Island Poetry

The corner sign on my street
Defines you quick and sure

To Sigh or Sail
That is your choice
This island city demurs

The moody French prefer to sigh
But Bay folk as usual rebels

Is it poetic
Is it phonetic
No Alamedaen will tell

My wife was quick
To change her clip
Her boater blood runs
blue not red.

At first I struggled to sail not sigh
It seemed so odd and quaint

Now a decade since our
island move
I’ve come to know, a bit too slow

This East Coast born,
now West Coast proud
Of course, I’d rather
sail then sigh
