End Sanctuary Status in Alameda

I think it is an adequate time for us, the citizens of Alameda, both new and old, to have a fireside talk. As any well informed citizen of the island knows via the news, an increasing number of cities in the state are opting out of SB54, the state bill that makes California a "sanctuary" state. Cities include Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Fountain Valley, Aliso Viejo, Los Alamitos, Orange, San Juan Capistrano, and Yorba Linda.

Now now, I know what you well informed progressives of Alameda have been told by local political representatives as well as the local media. You've been told that sanctuary status makes us "safer". Unfortunately this is a false narrative and can be easily debunked. The facts are, 40 of 58 sheriffs in the state of California oppose sanctuary status. The National Sheriffs Association, the largest sheriffs organization in the state and country vehemently opposes SB54 as well as sanctuary cities across California. In recent national and state polls, it has been concluded that the majority of Californians and Americans oppose sanctuary cities. The data is clear, Americans and Californians are fed up with illegal immigration.

Well then, the answer presents itself, why would our oh so enlightened mayor and city council, who believe themselves the "supreme moral authority" on the island defend such an unpopular policy? The answer is clear, our city representatives don't care about real safety, they never have. They would rather score political points with the local populace to boost their re election campaigns than keep our community safe by following federal immigration law.

As a proud supporter of president Trump in Alameda, I hope that more Alameda citizens will come out and voice their opposition to our city's illegal sanctuary city policy. I will be standing on Central and Park every weekend in May at noon voicing my opposition to our city's sanctuary policy. I hope you will join me.
