Council Votes to Extend Police, Fire Contracts
Approval includes medical trust fund to pay for ballooning retiree costs
City Council members narrowly approved four-year contract extensions for police and firefighters on Wednesday that include a trust to help cover Alameda’s ballooning retiree medical bills.
Sunday Morning Fire Burns at Apartments
At 9:42 a.m. last Sunday Alameda Fire Department (AFD) received the report of a fire at an apartment complex on the 2400 block of Shore Line Drive. Firefighters arrived four minutes later to find a fire burning inside a utility room at the rear of the large, three-story building.
All Charges Dropped
The Alameda County District Attorney (DA) dropped all charges were dropped last Friday against one of the two alleged suspects accused of setting several arson fires in Alameda in September.
Council Extends Ambulance Service for Non-Emergencies
At its June 17 meeting, the City Council gave a unanimous thumbs up to extending Alameda Fire Department’s (AFD) Basic Life Support program. The service involves transporting patients by ambulance on non-emergency calls like doctors’ and dialysis appointments.
