Cal Crew’s Rigger Retires After 35 Years

Longtime Alameda resident Mike Fennelly received a grand send off at his retirement party last month. Fennelly worked for 35 years as the rigger for the University of California, Berkeley’s varsity men’s crew team.

44th Annual Elks Hoop Shoots Finals Saturday

The 44th Annual Elks Hoop Shoot City Finals were held on Friday, Jan. 6, in the Alameda Point Gym. The contest consisted of shooting free throws; each contestant received 25 opportunities to shoot a basketball into the hoop.

Islanders Take Soccer State Cup

The Alameda Soccer Club’s (ASC) 2005 Girls Islanders White Competitive team won the prestigious State Cup tournament on Sunday, Dec. 11. The 2005 team — 2005 indicates the year the players were born — beat Merced United Soccer Club 1-0.
