The Dec. 5 Midway Shelter Run and Walk saw a special dedication to a long-time supporter of the Midway Shelter and special recognition of a new supporter who is rising through the ranks.

Alameda native Grace Na earned a Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tour card for the 2016 season after finishing tied for second place at the LPGA Final Stage Qualifying Tournament last Sunday, Dec. 6. 

Sonia Kwak won the last Alameda Women’s Golf Club (AWGC) net tournament last month by shooting a net 68.

The St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) women’s basketball team is off to a great start to the 2015-16 basketball season. The team is 4-0 on the year including three wins and the championship in the Roundball Classic.

Alameda High tight end Alex Denney has been named to the U.S. Under-18 National Team and will compete against Canada in the 2016 International Bowl at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. 

The 24th annual Island Classic basketball tournament kicks off today at St. Joseph Notre Dame’s gym. All three Island men’s teams will participate. Encinal will play Averros of Fremont at 3:50 p.m., while Alameda will take on Lincoln of San Francisco.

The St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) men’s and women’s cross country teams put together strong showings at the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) cross country finals last Saturday, Nov. 30, at Woodward Park in Fresno.
