Jane Sullwold held on to her lead to win the Alameda Women’s Golf Club (AWGC) President’s Cup Tournament last Thursday, June 27. Sullwold was in the lead after each round of the tournament. She posted the best net score in the first two rounds of the tournament. 

Hundreds of Alamedans migrated over to Bay Farm Island Monday, June 30, to watch the formal unveiling of Curry Court at Leydecker Park at 3225 Mecartney Road.

For the first time, a combined Sports and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) program will be offered to challenged boys and girls in the East Bay. 

Jane Sullwold slightly widened her lead after the second round of the President’s Cup last Thursday, June 19. Sullwold shot a net 71 giving her the best net score for the second round in a row.

Bay Area natives Jessie Stewart and Rei Esaka were the big winners at the See Jane Run Half-Marathon and 5K race last Sunday, June 22 in Alameda.

Alameda resident Regina Famiano along with hundreds of others took part in the 2014 “Out of the Darkness” overnight walk in Seattle last Saturday and Sunday, June 14 and 15. 

The Alameda Merchants dropped its last contest 7-1 to the Redding Colt 45s last Saturday, June 14, at Tiger Field in Redding. 

Wilda Moore won the charm event for the month of June by posting a score of net 66 last Thursday, June 5. Moore beat out 33 other golfers to receive the charm. The event was played on the Earl Fry Course.

There are many indicators that a school year is coming to a close: prom, graduation and the end of the spring sports season. Alameda high school athletes put together an impressive body of work on the diamond in the 2014 postseason.
