AGSA Summer Finale

Two Alameda Girls Softball Association Alameda Blaze teams’ summer seasons ended after competing in the All Star West Coast Championships in Sacramento July 26 to 28.  

The Alameda Blaze 10-and-under (10U) and 12-and-under (12U) B teams participated in the tournament.

The Blaze began the tournament by going 3-0 in pool play in Pool B. The team began pool play with a 9-4 victory over the Porterville Hot Shots on July 26. The next day the Blaze defeated Newark Nitro, 12-0, and the Cal Rebels of Fairfield, 11-1. 

Next up was the playoff bracket stage. All 10 teams competed in the double-elimination playoffs to determine the champion. The Blaze defeated the Rebels again this time in a 10-0 thumping. They beat the San Jose Sting, 4-1, on July 28 in the second round. The Blaze lost to the Salinas Wildcats, 10-3, in the quarterfinal, but because it was the team’s first loss the Blaze still had an opportunity to win the championship. However, the Blaze were eliminated after the Porterville Hot Shots’ got their revenge and beat the Blaze, 8-7, in the play-in bracket.

The Blaze 12U B team went 2-0-1 in pool play in Pool A. They defeated the Livermore Smoke, 12-0, on July 26 and beat the Rug Rats of Guerneville, 7-3, later that day. The Blaze’s third pool play match against Vallejo Mayhem ended in a 7-7 tie.

The 12U playoffs was played under single-elimination rules. The Blaze began the tournament with a 4-3 victory over the NorCal Shockers of Antioch. They beat the San Lorenzo Heat, 9-2, in the quarterfinal on July 28. The Blaze were eliminated from the tournament after losing to Smoke Fastpitch of Livermore, 9-2, in the semifinal.
