A 32-year-old Alameda resident was arrested in San Jose after leading California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers on a high-speed chase on state Route 85 Tuesday night, Jan. 28, which ended when the man crashed the vehicle into a home then tried to flee on foot.

Evan Alexander Page was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property and felony evading, the CHP said.

At around 9:41 p.m., CHP officers in San Jose were informed by CHP officers from Redwood City of a high-speed car chase on 85 at De Anza Road involving a 1992 Toyota Camry determined to be stolen out of San Rafael, officers said. Page drove the Toyota at speeds of more than 110 mph while officers were trailing him.

The officers saw the car turn at a high speed onto the off-ramp to Union Avenue in San Jose’s Cambrian Park area, but due to the rate of speed and potential risk to public safety, officers canceled the pursuit, the CHP said.

While exiting the highway, Page was unable to maintain control on a curved street and collided with a concrete wall and then a residence on Samaritan Drive about 100 feet from the off-ramp, officers said.

The driver then got out and tried to flee on foot but CHP officers apprehended him a short time later. No one was injured in the collision, which resulted in moderate damage to the car and minor damage to the residence, officers said.
