Eight members of the Alameda Island Aquatics swim team were chosen to represent Pacific Swimming’s Zone 2 at the 2014 All-Star Developmental Meet, held last Sunday, March 2, at Burlingame High.

Owen Cuenca (under-8 boys); Hannah Boles, Ella Hidalgo, Sophie Klube (under-10 girls); Oliver Cantal, Kevin Habek (under-10 boys); Ian Odinario (11-12 boys); and Arron Clavin (13-14 boys) were among the 64 swimmers from Zone 2 — Alameda and Contra Costa counties, along with the Stockton/Modesto area — chosen to take part in the event. The Zone 2 team competed against members of Pacific Swimming’s four other zone all-star teams that included swimmers from the Reno/Lake Tahoe area, the Peninsula, South Bay, North Bay and the Humboldt County area.

Members of the Alameda Island Aquatics had to put up stellar times at the Zone 2 Championships on Jan. 25 in Moraga to be selected to the all-star team. Boles was AIA’s lone individual first place finisher in the 10-Under Girls 50-yards backstroke, in a time of 33.70. Hidalgo finished in a very close second with a time of 33.97 and Klube was sixth in 34.98. Boles, Hidalgo and Klube teamed up with Grace Wasson, who anchored the 10-Under Girls 200-yard medley relay to a first place finish, in a time of 2:17.06, which is also a new Islanders team record.
