Aquatics’ Junior Olympics Report

The Alameda Island Aquatics swim team sent 19 swimmers to compete at the Pacific Swimming’s Short Course Junior Olympics March 14-16 in Concord.

The swimmers participated in eight different competition age groups with 16 swimmers racing in each meet.

Hannah Boles, Ella Hidalgo, Sophie Klube and Grace Wasson competed in the 10-under competition, for competitors 10 years old or younger. Boles placed in the top eight in four competitions including sixth in the 100-yard free competition (1:04.22). Hidalgo made the top eight in seven events including second in the 50-yard backstroke (32.22).

Oliver Cantel made the top eight in four events in the boys’ 10-under competition including fifth place in the 100 back (1:17.32). Kevin Habeck competed in two events.

Maria Clavin, Ashley Hendrawan, Carly Powers and Audrey Tran participated in the 11 to 12 girls’ competition. Ian Ordinario was the lone Aquatic representative in the 11 to 12 boys’ competition. He finished in the top eight in two events including third place in the 50-yard breaststroke (33.61).

Maddy Delore finished seventh in the 50 free (25.12) in the 13 to 14 girls’ bracket. Julianna Cardenas also competed in the bracket. Arron Clavin competed in the 13 to 14- boys’ bracket. His best finish was third in the 400-yard individual medley (4:28.31). Anthony Oreshkov also competed in the bracket.

Catherine Boles won five events (100 Free, 200 Free, 500 free, 1650 free and the 200 backstroke) at the event in the 15 to 16 girls’ bracket, while Laura Fornshell won two events (1000 free and the 200 individual medley). Alexa Lum also competed in the bracket.

Rebecca Krause competed in the 17 to 18 girls’ bracket with a first- place finish in the 100 back (1:02.12).
