Regatta set for Seaplane Lagoon

The American Armed Forces Cup Regatta will be held Saturday, Oct. 1, at Alameda Point. Doors open at noon and the event ends at 5 p.m. with a trophy presentation.

The regatta will consist of five short-course races, all completely inside the lagoon at the Point. The races will be contested by teams of active and reserve service members representing all five branches of the military aboard 26’ one-design racing boats.

Spectators can expect live music, family friendly activities, and local beer, wine and food trucks at the event.

The race will benefit Operation Dignity, which assists homeless veterans and their families. The organization provides emergency, transitional and permanent housing for homeless in Alameda County. They also offer comprehensive support services. Visit operationdignity.org for more information.

The event is free and all ages are welcome. The starting point of the race will be at 2201 Ferry Point. For more information on the regatta, visit www.facebook.com/events/913186895492109.
