Elks’ 46th Hoop Shoots Contest Starts Monday

 

The Alameda Elks along with the Alameda Recreation and Park Department will kick off the 46th annual Hoop Shoots contest Monday, Oct. 15.

The contest competition will be at the park level. The first competitions will be held at Bayport, Franklin, Leydecker, Lincoln, Longfellow, Tillman and Washington parks and Alameda Point Gym during program hours. The contest consists of shooting free throws. Each contestant has 25 shots at the hoop. A child may compete as many times as he or she wishes. Contestants must be Alameda residents or attend an Alameda school.

Classifications are as follows: Class A is for 12- to 13 year-olds, Class B is for 10- to 11 year-olds and Class C is for seven- to nine- year-olds. 

Competition closes on Friday, Dec. 14. The top three finalists in each division are eligible to represent their parks or clubs at the citywide finals, set for Jan. 4, 2019, at Alameda Point Gymnasium, 1101 West Red Line Ave. The winners in each division will represent Alameda at the District Shoot-Off in mid-January in San Mateo.
