FBI Descends on St. Joe’s

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recently dropped by St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) High School. A team of five FBI special agents from San Francisco’s Evidence Response Team made a special visit to Chand Desai’s forensic science class and gave students the inside scoop on what their jobs entail. The students also got a crash course on a few forensics procedures.

The agents set up stations where the students took fingerprints, tested (fake) blood and sorted through 80 pounds of dirt for clues. The agents also demonstrated an alternate light source that is used to find blood stains.

The students called the visit an eye-opening experience. The agents gave them a first-hand look at possible careers in the forensic science field, which for the average person, is often only portrayed on the television screen.

“The students really enjoyed it,” Desai said. “The guests have expertise in fields I know little about, so their visit really helped broaden the curriculum.”
