Golf Club Hosts Weekly Tourney

Tai Chewpanich and Sarah Valentine finished tied atop the leaderboard at the Alameda Women’s Golf Club net tournament event Thursday, Aug. 16, on the Jack Clark Course. 

Both golfers shot a net 68 in the first flight — handicap of 12 to 28.  Chewpanich shot the lowest gross score of the tournament with an overall 68. Siobhan Curley posted a net 72 for third place in the flight. Lynn Kobatake shot a net 73 for fourth place. Stephanie Bellato and Phoebe Yu both shot a net 74 in a tie for fifth place in the flight. Ten golfers competed in the first flight.

Jamie Totsuba-Hamono and Susan Logan finished the event tied atop the second flight — handicap of 29 to 36 — with matching net 72s. Susan Yoon shot a net 74 for third place. Yvonne Lee posted a net 76 for fourth place. Rita Kae Restrepo rounded out the top five in the flight with a net 78. Eleven golfers participated in the flight competition.

Lynette Mladinich was the sole winner of the third flight — handicap of 37 to 40. Mladinich posted a net 77 to win the contentious flight. Bobbie Hoepner finished right on Mladinich’s heels with a net 78. Bev Blatt posted a net 80 for third place. Vivian Kang shot a net 81. Kay Choi rounded out the top five with a net 83. Nine golfers were placed in the third flight.

Kathy Nagakura won the closest-to-the-hole competition on the fifth hole. Her ball stopped rolling 13’ 7” away from the pin. Chewpanich’s attempt landed 15’ 11” from the hole. Chris Alibrandi’s shot came within 18’ 4” of the pin.

Alibrandi fared much better in the competition on the 16th hole. She won by a wide margin with her ball landing 17’ 3” from the pin. Chewpanich’s attempt landed 40’ 8” from the pin, while Yoon’s shot landed 42.

Thirty golfers participated in the tournament.
