Guest Day Golf Team Wins with Net 115

The Alameda Women’s Golf Club (AWGC) held its Guest Day event last Thursday, April 28, on the Earl Fry Course.

In the guest event players are broken into teams of four with several of the participants not members of the AWGC.

The event was played under best net-two-balls format. This means all four members of a team play each hole, but only the two best scores of the particular hole are counted, while the other two scores are discarded.

The team of Shirley Lee and guests Geralyne Gong, Aileen Hisaoka and Esther Yoshioka won the event with a net 115. They played in the second flight with a team handicap of 121 to 160. The top two scoring teams were in the second flight. The group of Sonia Kwak, Susan Yoon, Veronica Chang and Mary Gong came in second with a combined net 119.

Three teams shot a net 125. Dot Moody, Claire Loud and Pam Curtis finished with a net 125 for third place in the second flight. Stephanie Bellato, Debbie Adams, Diane Hughes and guest Penny Feehan finished tied atop the first flight — handicap of 75 to 105 — with a net 125 with the team of Cheryl Saxton, Denise Gasti, Sarah Valentine and guest Claudia Leed. However, Bellato’s team won the tiebreaker to win the first flight.

The team of Val Buschor, Tai Chewpanich, Judy Eng and Sherry Westernoff shot a net 128 to finish third in the first flight. Bernice Herzberg, Fran Mori and guests Chizu Holmes and Irene Tekawa teamed up to post a net 129 for fourth place in the first flight.

Jaime Totsubo won the closest-to-the-hole competition on the fourth hole. Her ball landed 20’ 6” from the hole. Bae won the competition on the 15th hole with her ball landing 10’ 9” from the hole.

Forty-two golfers participated on 11 teams.
