Valor Games Far West, held annually at Alameda’s Coast Guard Island, provides a venue for more than 100 injured, ill and wounded veterans from the Western U.S. to compete in various sports. Now in its seventh year, the games will take place June 11 through 14. Veteran athletes will participate in archery, biathlon, cycling, discus, shot put, power lifting and indoor rowing.

In partnership with the U.S. Coast Guard and Northern California Paralympic Sports programs, the games are organized by the Far West Wheelchair Athletic Association and sponsored by the Veterans Administration (VA).

Any injured, ill or wounded veteran or active duty service member who is eligible for VA healthcare and resides in the western portion of the U.S. may participate. The goal of the Valor Games is to introduce adapted sports to attendees in order to promote the creation of ongoing adapted sports programs.
