Hornet Golfers Undefeated So Far
The Alameda High women’s golf team sports an unblemished 8-0 record on the season.
In its most recent contest, the Hornets took down San Leandro 179-256. With the nine holes being a total of par 30, Elizabeth Scholtes and Lauren Tan led the way with matching two-over pars. Alexis and Allyson Esguerra both played in the same group and shot one stroke from one another.
Alexis posted a 36 while Allyson shot a 37. Ashley Heng ended her play with a 42. Hannah Taylor shot a 46, but her score was discarded from the team score. The match was played at Monarch Bay Golf Club in San Leandro.
Prior to the victory the team won back-to-back matches against Bishop O’Dowd and Skyline, both from Oakland. The Hornets beat the Dragons 199-246 on Sept. 27. Scholtes shot her best score of the season with a 28, one-under par. Corine Tan posted a 39, while Lauren Tan shot a 40. Allyson Esguerra posted a 43 and Hannah Taylor capped off the team score with a 49.
The next day they beat the Titans 245-295. The weather was colder than expected, but that didn’t stop the Hornets from dominating their opponent. Senior Corine Tan shot her way to the top with the lowest score of 38. Allyson Esguerra played in the last group and moved everyone along with a 42. Ashley Heng and Taylor scored a 54. Freshman Alexis Quan ended the game with a solid 57. Both contests were played at the Hornets’ home course at the Chuck Corica Golf Complex.
Other Hornet victories include a 200-339 win against San Leandro to start the season on Sept. 6, a 213-309-342 win against Berkeley and Arroyo of San Leandro on Sept. 13 and a 235-255 win against Castro Valley on Sept. 15. They also finished fourth, out of 20 teams, at the Poppy Ride NorCal Classic on Sept. 19.
The Hornets’ next contest is today against Castro Valley and Arroyo.
