Hornets Crowned Golf Champs

The Alameda women’s golf team continued its dominant 2016 by winning the West Alameda County Conference (WACC) league championship on Oct. 17 at Tilden Park Golf Course in Berkeley.

The Hornets faced off against six other teams in the league, Bishop O’Dowd of Oakland, Berkeley, San Leandro, Arroyo of San Lorenzo, Castro Valley and Piedmont, all of whom they faced in the regular season.

It was a struggle to fight against the sloping hills and wet grass, but that didn’t stop the Hornets. The team won the tournament by shooting a 208. The next closest team  posted a 291. The Hornets scored the lowest out of all the other players in the field.

This is the Hornets fifth straight WACC championship. The Hornets also won the Alameda Contra Costa Athletic League championship from 2007 to 2011. In all the Hornets have won 10 straight league
championships.

The Hornets entered the tournament 10-0 overall. They also finished fourth out of 20 teams in the Poppy Ridge NorCal Classic on Sept. 19.

The Hornets will now participate in the North Coast Section championship at the Chardonnay Golf Club in Napa on Monday, Oct. 31.
