Island Joins National Protest
Alameda’s weekly vigil paid special attention to the message “Keep Families Together” last Saturday. The rally was held in conjunction with rallies across the nation. A crowd of more than 300 gathered at Park Street and Santa Clara Avenue for a well-received honk-and-wave after which a contingent went to Jackson Park for a rally and short program. Vice Mayor Malia Vella, Councilmember Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft and Pastor Laura Rose of Alameda’s All Faiths Coalition delivered messages of hope to families torn apart at the U.S.-Mexico border and thanked those attending. Above, Alamedans declared their message in contrast to one that appeared on the First Lady’s jacket recently.
