Moody, Hughes, Soo Top Women’s Golf Play
Dot Moody, Diane Hughes and Ruby Soo won a share of the Alameda Women Golf Club’s net tournament event last Thursday, Feb. 20 on the Jack Clark Course.
Moody, Hughes and Soo each shot net 69’s to earn the top distinction. Each of the three winners played in a different flight group.
Moody competed in the first flight — handicap of 10 to 21. She placed in front of Bernice Herzberg and Fran Mori who both shot a net 70 for second place. Debbie Adams and Tai Chewpanich tied for fourth place in the flight with a pair of net 77s. Hughes held the top honor in the third flight — handicap of 28 to 32. Chun Kim finished second in the flight with a net 72. Kay Park finished third with a net 75. Bonnie Kim came in the fourth place with a net 76.
Soo participated in the fourth flight — handicap of 33 to 40. The flight was extremely competitive at the top. Soo out shot Shirl Ames by just a stroke as Ames finished with a net 74. Susan Logan and Pam Curtis fought hard for the third place spot with it eventually going to Logan. She shot a net 74, while Curtis shot a net 75.
Judy Eng won the second flight — handicap of 22 to 25 — with a net 73. The second flight was the most competitive flight of the tournament. The top four golfers were separated by two strokes. Claire Loud shot a net 74 for second place, while Linda Ferrill and Madeline Sally tied for third place with a net 75.
Norma Marchesin won the closest-to-the-hole competition on the seventh hole. She shot her ball 2’ 10" away from the pin. Eng won the competition on the 16th hole. Her ball stopped 8’ from the pin.
Thirty golfers participated in the event. Chewpanich and Herzberg had the best gross scores of the event with overall 87s.
