Raiders to Bail on Alameda, Too

Dozens of Raiders fans congregated outside of the Raiders’ Alameda complex Monday, Dec. 30, 2019, to say goodbye to the Raiders players one last time before the team moves to Las Vegas.
The Raiders were officially eliminated from the NFL playoffs after a 16-15 loss to the Denver Broncos in the regular season finale on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019. The Raiders finished with a 7-9 regular season record.

The next day Raiders players cleaned out their lockers and conducted final interviews with the media before the offseason. As players left the facility they were greeted by fans wearing Raiders merchandise and holding signs wishing the players well. Some Raiders players signed autographs for the well-wishers.

However, the Raiders won’t be saying goodbye to Alameda just yet. The Oakland Raiders played its last season at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum before its move to Las Vegas, but the team will still be headquartered in Alameda for a few more months.

The Raiders last game at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum was a 20-16 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Dec. 15. The team’s new stadium in Las Vegas, Allegiant Stadium, is not scheduled to be open until early August, before the start of the 2020 football season. However, the team’s new, state-of-the-art, $75 million training facility in Henderson, Nev. is not scheduled to open until June, according to reports. This is well into the NFL offseason schedule. The training facility will include a performance center, outdoor and indoor practice fields and business and team operation facilities.

With the new facility not opening until June, the Raiders’ football and business operations will remain at their current headquarters at 1220 Harbor Bay Parkway on Bay Farm Island. That means the Raiders will conduct offseason obligations such as preparing for the NFL draft in Alameda, even though the 2020 NFL Draft itself will be held in Las Vegas from April 23 to 25.

Other tasks that will be held in Alameda include the free-agency period and conducting organized team activities, or OTAs. OTAs are team organized training sessions for NFL teams during the offseason. The Raiders will most likely hold its training camp at the Napa Marriot Hotel, which they have done for numerous years. The Raiders have called Alameda home to its football operations headquarters since moving back to Oakland in 1995.
