The Alameda Girls’ Softball Association held several games last Saturday, April 2.

The Pagano’s Hardware Tigers took down the McGee’s Thunderclouds in a contest in the eight-and-under division. It was a tight game that featured strong pitching on both sides, with the Thunderclouds’ Julia Lambert striking out the side in the first inning. The Tigers rallied in the second, starting with a base hit by Cheyenne Caina and RBI by Breanna McMillan and Clare Jackson. In the same inning, Lana Schullstrom made the catch of the day by catching a pop fly with a runner on third, then Julia Lambert tagged a runner out at first for the third out, keeping the score 2-0. The Tigers’ Devin Crane got the final out at first to secure the win. 

The Alameda Pediatric Dentistry Purple People Eater beat the Baldasserre Family Green Tree Frogs 7-4 in the other 8U match up. The Purple Eaters’ Sophia Ackerman sparked the offense with a 2-RBI double and Katie Yoo added a single and an RBI double. The Tree Frogs made it close, but the Purple People Eaters were too much for its opponents.

The Habit Burger Aftershock was victorious over the TMS Automotive Orange Crush 21-15 in a high-scoring affair in the 12- to 14-year-old division. The Alameda Aftershock and Orange Crush fought a close battle up until the fourth inning, when the Aftershock plowed ahead with a total of eight hits, resulting in a final score of 21-15.

The Orange Crush might have lost last Saturday, but they did secure a 9-7 victory over the Piedmont Purple Rain on March 26. The Crush were led by its excellent pitching and defense, including impressive play from guest player Marisa Perez.  Jojo Buckingham and Sophia Middleton each added great catches of pop flies. Jadyn Apetz provided the game’s offensive highlight, hustling around the bases for a three-run homer.
