Registration Open for Flag Football Season

Registration for the East Bay Flag Football (EBFF) Alameda Conference fall season is now open to Alameda residents. EBFF is a fun-filled game of 5-on-5 flag football where every player is eligible to receive the ball.  There is no contact and no blocking.

The league offers two co-ed divisions: nine- to 10-year-olds and 11- to 12-year-olds. Players will compete in the age group based on their ages as of Aug. 1. There will be boys only divisions for five- to six-year-olds and 13- to 15-year-olds. Those contests will be played in Oakland.

Games will be played on Saturdays between Sept. 14 and Nov. 16. Players may enter individually or as an entire team. Kids who want to play together are encouraged to enter as a team and train for the NFL Flag Regional Tournament. After the regular season there will be a playoff for the league champion.

All games and practices will take place at Rittler Park at the intersection of Grand Street and Otis Drive. For the seven-to-eight division, practice is at noon and the game is at 10 a.m. For the nine-to-10 division, practice begins  at 12 p.m. For the 11-to-12 division practice is at 2 p.m.

A meeting for parents and coaches is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Oakland High School theater at 1023 MacArthur Blvd. On the first day of competition, participants must bring their birth certificates (originals or copies), if you have already done this in a prior EBFF season, you do not need to do this again; cleats (no metal spikes) or tennis shoes; water or Gatorade; and a youth mouth guard (can be purchased at Sporting Goods stores or can be puchased on the field for $2).

The league is sponsored by the National Football League and USA Football. NFL Flag football is played in more than 1,000 leagues in the U.S.
