Two Alameda Companies Make Deliotte Fast 500


Deliotte, an international audit and assurance, tax, legal, risk and financial advisory and consulting firm maintains a database of the fastest-growing companies in North America. Called the “Fast 500,” the companies chosen for the honor “combine technological innovation, entrepreneurship and rapid growth,” according to the Deliotte website. The 2018 winners included two companies from Alameda: Exelixis, Inc. and Penumbra, Inc. Both work in the healthcare industry and are located at the Harbor Bay Business Park. 

Founded in 1994, Exelixis, Inc. is an oncology-focused biotechnology company. The company “strives to accelerate the discovery, development and commercialization of new medicines for difficult-to-treat cancers.” It is located at 1851 Harbor Bay Pkwy. 

Deliotte ranked Exelixis the 79th fastest-growing company with a registered growth of 1,702 percent last year. The company’s CEO is Dr. Michael Morrissey, Ph.D.

Penumbra, Inc., headquartered just down the street at 1351 Harbor Bay Pkwy., focuses on developing innovative therapies. According to its website, “Penumbra designs, develops, manufactures and markets medical devices and has a broad portfolio of products that addresses challenging medical conditions and significant clinical needs.” Penumbra products are sold to hospitals and clinics in the U.S. and internationally.

Deliotte ranked Penumbra 449th with a growth rate rate of 166 percent. The CEO is Adam Elsesser.
