Youth Team Wins Title

The Alameda Devils, a fourth-grade boys youth basketball team, beat the Hoop Rats to win the local Alameda Basketball Championship on March 1. The Devils beat the Hoop Rats, 38-16, in the championship game at the Alameda Boys and Girls Club, 1900 Third St. 

The Devils were a perfect 10-0 in the regular season. The team averaged 46 points per game in regular season, while allowing just 19.3 points. The Devils won all but one game by double digits, a 41-40 victory over the Lockdown on Jan. 25. 

The Devils began the season with a 37-17 victory over the Panthers on Dec. 7. Their regular season ended with a 45-26 win over the Men in Black on Feb. 15.. 

The Devils won the first game of the playoffs, 49-16, over the Panthers. They beat the Tigers, 46-17, in the semifinal. 

All players attend schools in Alameda. The team is coached by Jay and Ricardo de Leon.
